Ah, there's also zombies, while for the most part aren't much of a threat as more of a nuisance since they are inesplicably massive bullet sponges as well. The armored variant is ten times as worse, but I'll get to that later. Somehow, they can even kills you through walls with their electric impulse attack! Uber Soldiers are just giant bulletsponges that spams rockets and miniguns at you if you dare to even peek around the corner. Trying to shoot a charging Loper is useless, since they lacks even the most basic pain animation. The first ones will charge at you in less than five seconds, dealing an insane amount of damage in no time and effort. But the cake goes to the Lopers and the Uber Soldiers, arguably the worst enemies of the game. You also meet the equivalent of the Half Life female assassins, only in major numbers, and also with hyper accurate shooting.

RtCW is more of a trial and error game than a proper skill and positioning FPS, to the point that save scumming becomes the only viable wat to beat the game properly.Īs for the enemy themselves: Nazi Soldiers are for the most part fine as long as you are in a vantage position, it gets worse when the games introduces you the airborne variant and the flamethrower dudes, both twice as tanky and 100% instant reflex accurate with their weapons. In some levels there's some really infuriating enemy placements, like a soldier throwing infinite grenates at you while trying to climb a ladder, a sniper hidden in a tree that instakills you without noticing it, a supersoldier waiting for you near the corner with barely any cover ect. While for the first few levels it is tolerable through the use of cover and smart positioning, this goes out the window in the final three levels, where the level design is supposed for you to go run and gun like it's Quake, but in this game is just not fun. It just leeches the enjoyment out of the game, expecially at points were some levels are filled with annoying enemies that absolutely decimate you without giving a fair challenge. Shooting them while running is also counter productve most of the time due to the awful bullet spread and reaction times. A single soldier can somehow miss an entire magazine of shots but then land 20 of them in a row flawlessly, depleting over half your health and armor. Story is kinda there I guess, didn't really impress me that much but I wouldn't consider it a negative point.Įnemy AI is just plain bad. Let's start with the positives the art style is good and does a great job of conveying that WWII war atmosphere and intrigue, there's a nice variety of environments and set pieces and I argue that the first few levels are actually well designed with a complex but intuitive map that gives you plenty of way to move and cover, also with some treasure secret areas as well, which is neat and clicks quite well. Unfortunately, the latter was so bad it really drown all the few positives. I'm not stranger to play older shooters, I've had a very fun time with the first Half Life and Quake so I was expecting a similar experience of having a fun core gameplay despite some outdated mechanics and level design. At the time I was reconmended by friends to try out the other games in the franchise like RtCW, which sparked my interest expecially after reading online a lot of positive praise.

My first introduction to the Wolfenstein series has been the MachineGames reboot franchise starting with The New Order, a game that I quite liked and did a nice job of balancing his more linear intense story moments with a fun, arcade like shooting gameplay mixed with a small dose of stealth sections.
